Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors...and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize--one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!
Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SIX contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM--but there is also a red team, a gold team, an orange team, a red team, and an indie team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

SCAVENGER HUNT POST
Today, I am hosting Lucy D. Briand on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Lucy D. Briand lives in Ottawa, Canada with her comic book fanatic husband and her nonchalant Siamese cat.
When not working, reading, writing, or watching way too much TV, Lucy likes to cosplay, attend ComicCons, is obsessed with anything Disney, and loves to play ridiculous amounts of board games. She’s a geek to the core but she's also a huge NASCAR Cup Series fan.
Find out more information by checking out the author website or find more about the author's book here! Get on Amazon!!
The ability to magnetize and manipulate metal with the flick of her wrist makes seventeen-year-old Lexi Adams a crack mechanic, but it’s a disaster in the making when her stepdad trades her skills to NASCAR team owner Dean Grant for an entire season’s worth of sponsorship ads.
Now Lexi has no other choice but to suck it up and hope she can keep her magnetic impulses under control—that is, until she runs into NASCAR’s hot new rookie, Colton Tayler.
When Carl Stacy, the ruthless team owner of the defending Cup Champion, discovers Lexi’s secret and plots to use it to ruin Dean’s race team for good, Lexi must either expose her ability to save Colton, risking Dean’s career and her own freedom in the process, or watch the only guy she’s ever fallen for race to his death
So I thought it was time to share with you all a funny story about a scene from one of my earlier drafts of MAGNETIC SHIFT.
I remember having a hard time with describing this scene and getting the visuals right, so I emailed my husband and asked him if he could read what I had and let me know his thoughts. What I am sharing with you today is word for word what he sent back to me which was so far off from what I had sent him. And so not something I would have expected from him. First my jaw hit the desk and then I laughed so hard. Maybe you had to be there, but I still to this day think this is the funniest thing my husband ever did so I will share it with you anyway.
Now just a little bit about my husband so you can fully understand my reaction. The man is the shy quiet type unless he knows you already then he’s the class clown type. He’s a geek to the core like me or probably more so…he reads comic books, plays video games, board games, and the occasional Dungeons & Dragons. He does have a romantic bone somewhere in that body of his but it sometimes needs a little coaxing. I have never seen him or have any knowledge of him ever reading a romance novel or any novel for that matter unless Spider-Man graphic novels count. Most of all he is well spoken, polite, and a true sweetheart…I could go on and on but I’m sure you get the picture.
So on to this overly descriptive scene written by my awesome husband. (Glad I’d told him it was for YA. Could you imagine what I would have gotten back from him if I hadn’t?...lol)
Unedited earlier draft of a scene in MAGNETIC SHIFT
Lucy D. Briand’s Husband
I leaned back against a rack housing multiple coil springs as Colton turned his back to me, hung his ball cap to a cabinet handle and in one fluid motion, lifted his shirt up and over his head. I couldn’t help but watch as his back muscles flexed with every movement, his tanned body rippling in all the right places. He tossed the shirt aside, snagged a black, long sleeved shirt from the shelf, flipped it over and threaded his arms through it as he turned to face me. I held a gasp at bay as he then lifted his arms to pull the fresh shirt over his head, granting me a full, uncensored view of his perfectly sculpted abs. My eyes took an excursion up the moguls bulging from his ribcage, across the arid planes of his pecks, down the fjord of his solar plexus and hiked the hills of his abdomen before sprinting a lap and a half around the banked corners of his belly button to cross the finish line at the belt that kept his fire suite hanging off his waist, unfortunately ending the scenic ocular journey I was on. A warmth rose in my cheeks, no doubt making them the same shade of red as the springs behind me were. I dipped my eyes straight to the floor before realizing I had to release my canine’s grip on my bottom lip to speak. “It must be really warm with all those layers on?”
“Yep, but these garments are fire retardant. I’d rather be hot and safe, than cool and dead.” The corner of his lip twitched as he smiled. I didn’t want to look, but I couldn’t stop myself. He reached for his cap, raked back his tussled long beach blond hair with his free hand and slid the cap into place, setting the brim low on his forehead, shading his eyes and giving them an added air of mystery.
There you have it folks. If you want to compare, the final version of this scene is on page 38 of MAGNETIC SHIFT
